You can probably tell I'm getting excited about this up-coming weekend's trip, based on the number of threads I've posted lately. I've got so much left to do that I considered cancelling, but my 12 YO is really looking forward to it, so he's keeping up my motivation. Anyway, I thought I'd post a last minute packing list for this trip in case there are any glaring omissions or tips for free/cheap tweaks to optimize space, weight, and usability.

A few quick notes: I haven't listed any sunscreen because I'd rather cover up than deal with the hassle of it, and it's still cool enough this season to do so. I also haven't listed any bug repellent, because our clothes will be treated with permethrin, and again, we'll be mostly covered up. I've listed swim shorts for both of us, which aren't strictly necessary, but offer a nice alternative to hiking in long pants, weather permitting, and allow us to be modest while bathing. We only have one down bag, but I'll let my son carry that one, since it's lighter and smaller than our synthetic bags. The roasting bags are to go over our camp/sleep socks in the evening and keep our feet dry. We only have one air mattress, which I need, seeing as the kid can sleep on the hard ground without issue, but the old guy (compared to him) cannot. I sleep cold, so even with the relatively warm forecast (trip low of ~58, high of ~80, rain likely) I may supplement the air mattress with a CCF pad. The kid will get a sandwich of a car window reflecter, a CCF pad, and another reflector. In the kitchen kit, the bowls double as drinking cups, fit inside the pot, and weigh only a few grams. The multitool is one of those keychain sized ones (1.6g) which I'll use as a pot lifter.

If anyone has any other questions about what I've decided to bring, feel free to ask, and don't assume I know what I'm doing laugh. Without any further ado, here's the list.

I didn't look through the list since it was too late anyway and you've discovered anything you forgot, but I don't understand at all why you'd wear bags around your sleep socks at night since that would hold moisture from your feet in the socks. I could see perhaps if you were wearing wet socks to bed to keep from getting your bag damp, but you really need your feet to dry out at night.

Well, it just dawned on me that maybe you meant for just walking around camp, going potty, etc. and not while you're sleeping. That would make sense.

Hope you had a great time.

Ha, yes, I just meant around camp before we go to bed. Incidentally, I forgot to buy roasting bags and used bread bags instead. They were old ones I had saved for just that purpose. What I discovered is that the paint on old bread bags gets gummy and sticky, especially when damp. We both ended up punching holes in our bags with our toes when we were shoving our feet into our shoes, due to the sticky bags getting stuck and not sliding in easily.

We didn't bring everything on the list. Since I initially wrote the list, the forecast got a lot warmer, so we left the jackets at home and were able to use a single mattress pad each. I even ended up waking up hot on Saturday night, which is almost unheard of for me until late summer.

Have fun on your trip. We should backpack together sometime. Meet up on the Four C or something
