We can't all do the "crossing Africa" or "down to Patagonia" trips of a lifetime so here are some options for cycle trips that I imagined into being:

Vancouver Island

1. Biked to the ferry to Mill Bay and cycled up to the Kinsol Trestle, down the Trans-Canada Trail to Skutz Falls and then to Lake Cowichan for lunch. Returned the same way for a grueling ride home.

2. Biked to the Mill Bay Ferry, took the bike route through the wineries and farms of Cobble Hill, Cherry Point and Cowichan Bay to the Farmer's Market in Duncan. Lunched, cycled up to Lake Cowichan on the new part of the Trans-Canada Trail to Lake Cowichan. Stayed at an AirBnB, cycled home along the Cowichan River next day to the Mill Bay Ferry and home.

Fast and Light in the Okanagan-Similkameen
Cycled from Grand Forks to Penticton along the Kettle Valley Railtrail with a lightweight setup on a 29er and a hardtail Kona hybrid, stopping at lodges, motels and hotels along the way. Came south down the Okanagan Valley to Osoyoos where we'd dropped our vehicle. Next time, I'll take a 29er too!

I envy you B.C. folks all the great mountain biking opportunities. Sounds like fun!

Cool! I live in Napa, so we can ride pretty much all year---and if we head south, we can keep going for a long ways.

Now that you've got me thinking---one ride I've always wanted to do was to ride the length of Highway 49 through the foothills of the Sierra on the GOld COuntry Highway...
