Hi, I'm having a very hard time finding good gear for big guys. I'm 6'2 340lbs. My chest is about 57", my waist is 48", and my arms are about 21". All the good name brand outer shells only seem to come in xxl. I think I would need at least a xxxl, or maybe even a xxxxl. Ideally, I would like to get a shell that would fit over my xxxl northface nuptse. The northface jacket just fits me, I was shocked to find a puffy that fits. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

one option would be to talk to a cottage manufacturer and get something custom. It would be pretty pricey but it would be pretty high tech. One option might something like this from z-packs:

He definitely will do custom work.

Take a look at the DryDucks raingear. They tend to be large for their stated size and, they are inexpensive as well. The one I have has held up pretty well although they have a reputation for zipper failures and overall fragility. Not the best for bush whacking. I have one in Size L and it is roomy to say the least. I'm 5' 9" and 165 lb.

Yours is a standard complaint--outdoor gear is made for the skinny folks. That leaves those of us who are not so skinny but really want to get out there (to get skinnier or at least not get any stouter) really scrambling for something to wear. Of course for me, short, stout, and female, the main problem is finding pants (regular or rain pants) that will fit over my extra-large rear. At least base layers stretch! laugh

Learning to sew is definitely an alternative for those of us who don't fit into the "standard" sizes! It also can save a lot of $$$.

About a year ago I started Civil War re-enacting. For me, it is really refreshing to "time travel" back to the days when large hips on a woman were considered desirable and the height of fashion!

I solve the problem with looking very carefully for large ones (I have some frog toggs that fit the bill - and an MEC goretex) but the sure way is go for a poncho.

Integral dynamics silponcho, - (or the zpacks poncho, from zpacks as previously mentioned).
