Has stopped making the virga.. while fortunately I have managed to aquire three of them, this is annoying. I *really* liked that for a frameless pack, it still had a comfy (for me) suspension and only weighted 500 odd grams - sure more than a 200 gram cuben fibre jobby, but it also only cost a hundred bucks!

Drat..

I felt the same way when the Vargo Jet-Ti stove was disco'd. Sucks, man. Snatch 'em up while you can.

Granite Gear still makes the Virga pack in the regular torso size. The short and long versions were dropped some time ago, but the regular is still in production.

Current retail is $109.95.

Didn't ownership of Granite Gear change hands recently?

I've noticed they're continuing to change the basic design of their packs. The Escape AC60 was a fairly significant change in suspension design, as well as pack bag design, last year. (I got one, liked it at first, but then found it was about an inch too short, and the hard frame hit me at just the wrong spot on my back.) They also changed the torso lengths for the Vapor Trail fixed suspension; I had a VT I used to death because it fit perfectly, but when I tried to replace it, the medium was too short and the Long was too long. (I think I need a "Goldilocks" size.)

Then, this year, they came out with a Blaze pack that, to me, seems destined to replace both the Vapor Trail and Nimbus Ozone in the lineup - leaving them with no pack in the sub-3-pound range. (I think the Nimbus Ozone is already gone.)

I do stand corrected - It just didn't appear on the web site easily thanks to a very tiny 1 of 2 in the bottom of the page.

Shame the page just doesn't show me the packs instead of only
some of them at first wink

(web designers who do this should have a special circle made for them by phil, the prince of insuficcient light)

Hi Glenn - actually there is a new Crown 60 coming out in 2012 that is the direct replacement for the Vapor Trail. It will have a stiffer air current suspension, 100d fabric as the main body, and weigh 2lbs, 2oz.

Hey guys,

sorry to warm this up, but I thought it might be a good place to catch some Virga owners.

I was wondering how they achieve the different torso lengths.
Are the shoulder straps and the hip belt just attached more up/down depending on torso length and the backpack length itself remains the same length?

I could get a really cheap one in small torso length and I am wondering if I could just customize it into a regular one by attaching the shoulder straps more up...

Could any of the Virga owners of a LONG or REGULAR version measure distances for me?

I'd like to know how far the flap between the shoulder straps is apart from the upper end of the coloured back.
And maybe general length of the coloured back part in total, so from the top till the bottomn seam where the bottom starts.
(see pic)

Anyone who could do that for me?

Thank you!

In case somebody is curious about the short measurements:
that'd be 7cm/2.75" from the top of the shoulder straps flap till the top clip where the back of the backpack ends.
And 40cm/15.7" from the top of the flap to the bottom seam of the back.

That makes 47cm/18.5" back length

That'd make me guess that the whole backpack is getting larger with longer torso lenghts? How does the weight and capacity stay constant then?
With other GG backpacks they mention different capacities and weights depending on torso lengths, but not so with the virga...
