Add one more vote for the zip-offs. They dry fast, are convenient...and I've even been known to start in the morning with the full leg...then sip then open half-way for a little knoee ventilation on a climb...and then finally zip the all the way off!

Zip-offs for me! I travel and hike in some "Megellan" zip-offs
bought at Academy Sports that are very lightweight, crunch down small, dry in minutes. In my neck o' tha woods, I typically hike in shorts and zip the legs back on when the sun goes down.
I generally don't bring changes of pants so zip-offs earn the dual purpose rating.

I have a pair of Magellans as well, $20. I also have a few Magellan shirts, $14. Anyways, I wear the zipoffs, although I rarely unzip them. I like the sun protection without sunscreen. My shirt is long sleeve, and I generally wear a full brim hat. However, I have unzipped them a few times.
