I picked up one of these bottles to store denatured alcohol in (8oz not 3oz). link
I took it out for a quick one nighter with my son, and put about 5oz in it and then put it in a ziplock bag. This thing must have leaked like crazy because the inside of the bag was wet and I had about 2oz left when it came time to cook. The lid was on tight, squirter down, and no cracks in the bottle.
Does anyone use something different to store alcohol in?

I use bottles very similar to that from REI, and they work fine. The 1 oz looks like that one, but the 2 oz, 4 oz and 8 oz are flatter. I think mine are Nalgene brand. I sometimes keep it in my food bag, even though I know that's not a good idea, but I haven't had a problem with leaking.
I've used those, and the flat 8 oz kind. But I always carry them upright in the outside pocket of the pack to avoid a lot of pressure on the bottle, and have sometimes put that plumber's tape on the threads before screwing on the lid. smaller pop bottles also work.

I use this 4 fl oz bottle a lot: http://www.rei.com/product/605499 I marked the sides in ½ fl oz steps to help me dispense the correct amount based on temperature outside.
In all these setups, I have never had a leak even with pressure. Thus I never have to put it in a backup bag. That’s the nice thing about alcohol, if it does leak, it doesn’t eat/melt items in your pack.
BTW, try not putting your bottle into a Ziploc bag. There’s something about the physics of that scenario that wants to suck the liquid right out of the bottle.
My favorite (and standard)...recycled contact lens solution bottles. Common (approx) sizes; 1/3, 1, 4, and 12oz. Bigger than that I use the same bottle that rubbing alcohol comes in (but not rubbing alky itself). Or Heet with the replaceable caps.
The contact lens bottles have a great dripper nozzle (removable) that will produce a nice, controlled stream of fuel. I've never had one leak...

Wow, awesome. I think that is perfect. Thanks.

I use the 8 oz bottled water bottles with the regular screw-off lid. They're very light, and unquestionably leakproof. They don't come with a dripper type cap, but I can take one of the flip-up caps off of another water bottle to use if I have to, but I've found that if I'm careful I don't need the dripper.

I've had two of the 4-oz contact lens solution bottles leak. I used them only for contact lens solution, but I carried them backpacking or camping 2-3 weekends a month for at least a year before I had a problem. They will last a while but not indefinitely. The nozzle does work great if you need a very small, concentrated stream of liquid (such as cleaning off your contacts, not surprisingly).
