I'm considering getting the Victorinox Swiss Army Knife Classic or the Wenger Swiss Army Knife Esquire. Which do you recommend?

I'm a Victorinox guy, so I EDC a Classic, and it is my most used knife in the back country as well. It now comes in various permutations, including either a pen, or small light, among other things - either of them can be very useful. Just keep it sharp.

I am not familiar with the Esquire, but I will bet it is equally useful. Both outfits make good stuff.

Darwin

Are you asking if the LED light on the Esquire works well enough to justify the added weight?

I carry a Huntsman... used to carry a Tinker until I lost it, and the replacement needed a corkscrew. Good knives.

To echo old ranger, the real question is probably what tools to you want on the knife... answer that, and there will be a knife that meets that need.

Personally, IMHO, Wenger knives are much lower in quality than Victorinox. I will never buy a Wenger knife. I am sure others have different opinions, but that is mine.

Victorinox acquired Wenger in 2005, so today I doubt there's a functional difference.

Cheers,

I guess I need to check out the new ones. The main difference I didn't like was the blade quality. Hopefully, they have changed to the victorinox blade material.

just buy yourself a nice leatherman. Very useful. Also, I love my Buck Knife 110 Hunter. I dont leave the house with at least one of them on me.

actually you can go wrong with a Kabar. Its pretty much useless camping, heavy, and makes you look like a tin horn.

Jim,
I just like the durability k-bar offers and dont mind the extra weight,I guess it is all in personal prefrence im not saying there are not better knives out there because that would be a lie But for the money I think it is a good knife.
