Here are a few shots of the tent that I designed and made from some waterproof ripstop I found at Walmart for $2 a yard, and some mosquito netting. The roof wraps right around the foot of the tent and becomes the floor…and the netting wraps around everything else. Weight, with aluminum poles, is a little over three pounds.

That's pretty cool. I bet it is pretty nice in relatively warmer weather. Hopefully the wind doesn't blow too sideways.

Good work.

Looks real nice! Looks heavy though for the design. 3lbs?

Just about exactly three pounds...and worked extremely well this summer. We hit some horrific bugs early in the year, and this worked great. And we had rain that caused no problems either.

I guess you could get by without the bug netting...if you drank a lot of liquids beforehand!

As for sideways wind....we do pitch it with the foot into the wind. That seems to work pretty well. Again, this is a tent for the summer, not for winter.

That doesn't look much like a tent to me. It looks more like a tarp with some necessary stuff placed under it. Looks like a really cool design and if it works as great as you say you can't beat it at 3 lbs...sabre11004... goodjob

Hi Sabre

Waterproof both top and bottom--and the "eaves" hang down enough that my wife even feels as if we have a bit of privacy. And yes, about 3 pounds, all up. With the sides made of bug netting, there is no condensation worries that you get with most single-wall tents.

Sabre,
Phriteaux and I have used a similar rig for months at a time in some seriously nasty weather. No problem. It has survived storms that put "real" tents on the ground and their occupants running for cover. That has happened several times - to the point that I am convinced that conventional tents are useless.
