I'm looking at hiking the Ice Age Trail in the Kettle Moraine South State Park in Wisconsin. I can't find any maps that give distances between the backpacking shelters. Does anyone know those distances? specifically between 2 and 3 but all would be good.

Thanks,
John

Here are some trail maps

Here's the USGS Quad Map (Topo) <- that's a direct download link for a big TIFF file. Google Maps (Select Terrain) might work better for you.

But I couldn't find what you are looking for exactly.

Hope this helps a bit.

If you have a map with the location of the shelters and route of the trails and you mark those on the Quad map you can use the scale on the Quad to measure the distance between.

It'd only be a rough estimate, but if your within even half a mile you'll have an idea of what you're up against.

I'd have thought that someone would have that info posted online for you by now though. That was a pretty popular park when I lived in Rockford, Il. I'm sure I must have been there, but it would have been long, long ago.

You can do some pretty good estimating with this site.

I just did that trail last April with some scouts. Beautiful country. The shelters were booked way in advance so we (7 of us) just stealth camped.
As I recall, the best map I saw was at the Forest Headquarters.

Well I've got shelters 2 and 3 the 29th and 30th. Here's hoping it doesn't snow or rain. I'm looking at parking at the Emma Carlin Hiking/Biking trail and then hiking to 2 for the night then down to 3 and back on Saturday. Just need to work out the parking permit now and get that trail map from Forest HQ.
