Sky and Telescope magazine prints an updated star chart on their website. It's free. It's accurate. And it will help you find your way around all the constellations.

Something like this is great for tracking stars through the seasons:

star wheel

But it won't provide the planets. The Sky and Telescope recommendation is a good one for that.

I've used the Star Wheel for years -- its light and durable. REI used to carry it.

Do you carry an iPhone or ipodTouch? If so, check out the app, SkyVoyager. Even if you don't carry those devices check out the app's features at the iTunes store...it's a lot of fun and and very comprehensive.
