Meet the Princess

I just wanted to introduce you all to my new trail companion. She is a 15-month-old Golden Retriever named Rosie. Her registered name is Krishna's Second-Hand Rose. We have had her for about 13 months now. She is still in the process of learning company manners but will still jump up on people when she gets excited, which is a lot. She has learned about rattlesnakes and has just finished her first day hike with me. She stayed pretty close and came when I called but I don't think this will last.

My wife and I had been without a dog for about a year after out last dog, Kai, an Alaskan Malamute died. Rosie is of a different, extroverted, personality type compared to Kai who was introverted and not particularly social.

Pretty dog, I think that breed will take a bit to calm down. Enjoy her exuberance.:)

It looks like Rosie is a little princess, with a bit of mischievous thrown in. Goldens are great dogs, but they can be exuberant. Here is ours. He is now 14 months old, so just about Princess' age (and he does have the bandana <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />)

Goldens generally don't score well at hunt tests/field trials due partly to their (appearance at least) attempts to stay dry and clean. The joke is ... should a Golden come up missing, look for the Chesapeake that 'hacks' up a yellow fur ball with a red bandana in it.

Well this dog of mine may like to stay clean, but dry no longer seems to be in his vocabulary. Yesterday he swam in the ocean and then came home and swam in the pool. And before I left for work this morning, he was already back in the pool. Wish I had such a life of leisure.

Like Pika we lost our last dog when we had to put her down in the prime of her life at 17 years of age. We waited over two years to have another. Our last dog was a black Lab and this one is yellow. Labs are notoriously "rowdy" when they're younger.(both my previous ones were untill they were 7 or 8) My wife was determined to prove this and me wrong.(I hate it when she does that <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />) Well, we stared taking her hiking imediately and backpacking at 4 mos.



Our grandkids love her and by bringing her around them and placing her in other social situations such as crowded "tourist" locations, we have taught her to behave. Labs and other retriever breeds need a lot of attention and exercise to mellow. This is our Lab Shawna at nine months with the grandkids.
