mosquito and thermacell

Does anyone have experience with the Thermacell (mosquito repellant) and how much does it weigh?

The Thermacell mosquito repellent is great for the backyard, but I wouldn't recommend taking one backpacking. For starters, it's a lot heavier than an equivalent amount of conventional repellent. I don't have the butane capsule, so I can't tell you how much it actually weighs, but it was more than 1 oz., which is more than an equivalent amount of bug juice.

The other problems are that it has to be a relatively calm night for it to be effective and those butane capsules don't last very long. Save yourself the discomfort and leave this one home - Picaridin and DEET are the only light and effective bug solutions I've used.

i have never used it but it weighs under a pound. alot of servicemen are advised to buy one before they go over seas so it been real popular with the military.
