'da Box' hath arrived! - 01/23/08 03:03 PM

"da Box" has made it to me from Kevon. I'm almost afraid to look inside.

Are members automatically on the list or do we need to sign up? I have a TON of goodies for the box !

I'd like to get on the list, too--I have some goodies to add! Please let us know how! While I'm not an "oldtimer" here, I have been a member for a couple of years now.

I have no idea what the protocol is on the box. Earthling started this whole thing, so I think it is up to him to a certain extent. I think he has one East Coast box and one West Coast box.

I think it may be important to keep the box to a manageable size, otherwise it will turn into a footlocker sized behemoth.

How retro-actually sending people a thing, rather than a file.

Yeah ain't it Tom

Ok folks you don't have to be an 'old timer' to participate..just don't go gettin' Altzheimers once you have the box otherwise everyone else on the list fills my PM box up , You just have to have been around 'these parts' for at least 2 years, and 100 posts; so I have an idea that you're just as much a gearhead as the rest of us

I have 5 boxes out now It went like this.....West Coast #1, East Coast #1, SouthEast Box #1, MidWest box #1, Northern Tier Box #1......They're out there floating around and when they make their ways back to me I'm sending them right back out as #2 boxes to all those areas, except then it will be a whole different card of folks who get the boxes

This is the fairest way i could figure out how to give a new home to some closet gear amongst friends. I put a maxiumum of up to 10 folks per card; this should keep the box moving pretty good, and allow for a fair amount of privacy amongst participants. Don't think I did'nt go through many ears of corn dipped in butter to figure this out

I have a East of Missippi Box card full already for when a box comes in; and I have 3 spaces left for a Round 2 West Coast Box at this time...easy now, no pushing, there's enough seats for everyone

To get on an Earthling's Doodad Box list you just PM me your info and I copy it onto the appropriate card for your Region of the USA, once the card is filled I put it inside of a CD case that has a CD of the Earthling Farm, where it stays until it gets back to me. I hope this will continue to be a fun surprise for all who participate in the spirit of giving regardless of Season

Oh yeah, and like Tom said, please keep the box to a reasonable size, I don't have room here for a cabin tent

Oh, and I made them regional so that it would keep the cost of shipping down for folks....'cause I'm on a budget too

No time like the present to get a big old pillow case and toss in yer' unused camping trinkets in anticipation of getting a box. You put in as much as you like, and take out whatever items you think you WILL USE < Key words

Eugene, this could backfire and cause you to have to rent a warehouse.
We could work "da box"s like a chain mail scam and you'll end up with so much stuff you won't know what to do!
Just a thought....

Eugene

Ya trouble is every one wants to ADD TO THE BOX. YOU MUST REMOVE AND EQUAL WEIGHT OF WHAT YOU PUT IN, otherwise the shipping goes way up. It cost me $13 to ship a box.

I can see where you might not put the address list into the box, and instead people email you for the next address, this would also allow for "soft" changes instead of a "hard" address card. who's an engineer? not me , that way if someone is off'd the FBI can concentrate on you...

This could be an elaborate mule scam. Perhaps you just shipped $13 (shipping dollars) worth of narcotics, hidden in old camping gear. Turn yourself in Jim, they will go easier on you.

Jim is just "thinking outside the box"

Each recipient of "da box", send one to ten of your friends , and they each send to ten more friends, each all sending 100 boxes to the first name on the list, Eugene. Simple! By summer, Eugene should have 10,000 boxes of 'goodies'.

Make sure they put a dollar in there too!

Re: 'da Box' hath arrived! - 01/25/08 07:04 PM

Good God what have I created

Very funny you guys

Ok JimShaw I see your point about the boxes' outgrowing their contents every few folks. Like I said, I want folks to put in manageable items. If they have a tent or pack or other large object I would hope that they would pickup the phone and get in touch with a local Scout Leader to donate it locally

Future boxes that leave Planet Earthling will be the Flat Rate USPS large box, with no paper contents, but Earthling Adventure CD still in it This idea was Bigfoot2's not mine and that is a great one! If it does'nt fit in the box wait for the next box...eventually you'll get rid of your item and get something you want. Think Geocache like Jason remarked in an earlier thread

If you want to add more than fits in the FR box you can place a 2nd box in the lineup to ship with the first, just don't fill it up

Now, if you are a Scout Leader of either sex of Humans you can remove objects to your troops delight within reason. Explain to them why this is being done; and have them understand the concept is to remove an item they will use and then replace with an item that is usable.

Hey, maybe Scout Leaders want to start their own boxes between Troops Now that might be helpful to the 'economically challenged' Troops, of which I once belonged . It would give kids who can't afford, for one reason or another, the opportunity to get gear Something to consider.....

Again, I hope folks can understand that the box in their hands is being anxiously awaited by the rest of the folks on the card; and move it along after having it for a week or less when possible. Once a box returns to me, I will reship it with a totally new list/card with just the members avatar name/ town/State to contact to ship it to. How's that JimShaw You PM the next person on the list for their addy info.

In the end I am shipping and reshipping all these boxes out of pocket, so no rocks please I think for even a $15 shipping charge there must be SOMETHING inside the box one would take out But once we switch over to the $8.95 box then it'll hopefully be more economical for some
