old backpack

allright, maybe i can figure this out now, having trouble trying to get this ? up. i have n old d3(?) jansport backpack, external frame. just wondering how good these were rated in theyre day. thanks

Is it comfortable for you when fully loaded with your gear?

Does it fit the gear you have?

How much does it weigh?

If the answer to the first three questions is yes and the answer to the last is under 5 lbs., I'd keep it! Only you can decide!

The one thing I used to notice about Jansport packs (back in the 1980's) was that the zippers had a tendency to break. If the zippers on yours are still good, so much the better.

yeah. everything is nice on this pack. fits good, not sure what it weighs. ippers are in real good shape for its age. i will be putting it to the test here soon. i hitchhike a lot, never used an external frame though. i will keep posted. thanks for the info.

External frames work just fine for carrying any kind of load down a trail. They always have. The internal frame packs are better suited to mountain climbing than external frame packs, but that is not an issue for at least 98% of hikers. JanSport was once a high-end brand and they made excellent packs. Nowadays, not so much as before.

I would keep it. Externals are great for bulky, odd sized loads -things that just won't fit into any internal frame pack. I would still be using my 1962 Kelty if it hadn't been stolen.

yeah, i have put this jansport on, loaded, and hiked around the woods out here. i like the way it feels. it may be a pain to hitchhike with; putting it in someones backseat and such, but it will all work out. i appreciate the advice and comments. thanks
