Alcohol stove input needed - 11/29/09 10:46 PM

Hello. I'm considering getting the PackaFeather XL alcohol stove(http://www.packafeather.com/xlstove.html.) Any opinions about it and/or ideas about other alcohol stoves. I'm not looking to make my own.
I'm going to be using it for a single person and for 1-2 weeks generally below 14,000 feet. This would be for cooking meals.

Just curious, but why are you against making your own?

As for cheap, good-enough cooking, alcohol stoves are great. They're lightweight. The fuel can be found anywhere. They're not the best at altitude though. And the "burn until empty" fact means you have to be a good estimator at how much fuel you'll need. I have one that I use when I am only going for a few days and I want to save space.

Again, just my .02, but I'd strongly recommend making a "soda-can" stove, even if just to try out cooking with alcohol. If you want to upgrade at that point, great! If you find that alcohol isn't all you thought it'd be, you aren't too committed.
