No snow in backpacker magazine huh?

I talked to someone at BP via email about covering winter backpacking and was told they would do more articles if there was enough intrest so everyone email BP and tell them we are here and waiting to read.

Yeah, they have avoided the subject of winter camping for years.
"Lack of reader interest" my foot! They are just too inexperienced &/or wimpy to get out and DO IT.

Just buy "Allen & Mike's Really Cool Backcountry Ski Book." It has just about everything you need to know for beginner snow campers. The rest you can learn from here and other websites or better still, from taking a class like NOLS.

Yesterday I did post on BPM's forum about their glaring lack of winter camping coverage in their magazine. (Doubtful whether the BPM staff will pay it any attention.)

Don't be hard on them,it really is not much fun in a cold tent.
Maybe they do not know the extra pack weight to have a chimney and a hot tent is only 12 ounces.

Sorry for being so slow on reply. The 12 oz. is for the chimney consisting of, one bottom tapered 2.5"x 20" section of steel or lighter titanium and one upper tapered 2.5"x20" section aluminum. An aluminum top carrier, bottom base and tapered sleeve to join the pipes together.
The steel 5"x5" stove would be 12 oz. which would be close to the weight of a gas stove with fuel.
The stove/chimney could be used to cook and eat inside under any tarp.

Winter backpacking is the one thing I have been avoiding, but have wanted to do now for years...

First you must define "winter". Different areas have vastly different conditions in winter. If you mean "real winter" then you need specialized gear and training. Make a mistake in 50-degree weather and you may be uncomfortable; make the same mistake in -30F and you are dead. Winter backpacking is serious stuff. This may be why BP magazine stays away from it.
