You've probably got the wrong site - this site is American backpacking, which is wilderness hiking and camping, generally in the United States and Canada. It is not "backpacking" in the adventure-travel sense that you seem to be seeking. So, don't be surprised if not many folks have any information for you.

However, you might want to search the Internet for "Steve Newman Worldwalker." Steve is a person from Cincinnati, Ohio, who did a very similar thing to what you're thinking about in the 1980s (?). I've met him once (I arranged for him to speak at my Rotary club), and read his book. He is a very approachable person, as I recall, and would probably have some good advice if you could find his contact information.
