Looking in tri state area

Hey everyone.

I live out at montauk long island ny. I am looking to do my first over night back pack trip with my dog and wanted to get some recommendations on where to go. It takes me 2-3 hours to get off long island so I would like to find a nice overnight trip not to far away(within 5 hours) I want to get a early start on saturday, stay overnight then hike out and head home on sunday.

How about Bear Mountain NY? I personally haven't hiked it yet, it's on my to do list when I section hike NY in the spring next year.

Within your 5 hour limit should get you into the Catskills. Plenty of opportunities there. Might find some good ideas here:
