OK Im taking the dslr

Ok I am taking my Canon rebel xti on my smokies hiking trip. I cannot due without and will accept the weight! I ordered a Keyhole device, looks awsome. My question is my Best lens is a 28-135 IS zoom lens. It is a bit heavy compared to my cheaper 300 standard canon zoom or my 200. I am debating taking the is lens and using a x2 adapter when needed for longer shots. I Also enjoy close up photos and Have a auto focus 50mm canon macro. The x2 on the IS lens creates a manual focus situation. I would love to go bye a 300 IS zoom ,but not in the budget at this time. Question, I am a amature what would you take with my equipment?

curious as to how you rig your camera? I saw some chest rigs on ops/tech...but am unsure...

I purchased the key Hole device. It takes the place of shoulder strap conecter. This device was around 30.00 but well wort the money. It keeps your camera handy and accessable, and secure to chest. I punched a tiny hole in a gallon zip lock bag and added a tiny o ring to the camera attacment. I kept the bag flipped down when it was raining light and camera stayed perfectly dry!

Thanks for that advice on keeping the camera dry with the Keyhole; I'm making one up to use, too. I'd for sure take the zoom and probably the 2X adapter. That Canon-IS 300mm, if it's like mine (we've got the same camera), is pretty heavy. I, like you, can't afford the Canon 300mm IS lens (It is now "standard" in the two lens packages I've seen.) If your pack's heavier than you want it to be, that 300mm telephoto might be something to leave behind. taking the 2x converter for the rare telephoto shot.
