On your first pic, "Looking down the Colorado from above the Nankoweep Delta"
do you have any idea of the width of the river, distance to the farthest red canyon wall and its height?

Perspective in the canyon is messed up.

The Nankoweep delta is the first place where the walls widen out and the river is pretty wide. I would say 200-300 feet wide in places. Judging from my Martin and Whitis, that view is from around mile 53.5 and the bend in the river is around mile 57. You are correct about perspective in GC.

Sorry for the delay, been in San Diego.

We were there 8/23 - 8/28. The weather was very enjoyable for me. The 50 degree river cools the air a lot. For river running, I would advise anybody that gets cold easily to go in June or late Aug - early Sep. You stay wet a good portion of the time and the cool air can have quiet a chilling effect. July is the hottest month statisically. It gets extremely hot if you get more than 100 yards from the river but as you can see, there are ample opportunities to soak yourself. On one side hike from the inner gorge, my thermometer measured 104 but it was not an issue because we kept saoking our entire bodies in the creek.

Our group was a mix, with the largest party being six guys from St Louis.
