Hams beware,BEST GMRS HANDHELD RADIOS AVAILABLE? - 06/21/14 07:15 PM

ok so when i was 12, i got an amateur radio lisense , my call sign was KG4BYP , i didn't keep up with it as my add is one of a kind and life happened to take me on a thousand other rides !

long story short i recently purchased a new lisence from the FCC to operate on the GMRS frequencies ! - witch will allow my family to as well!

so I've been out of the ham loop for a long time! but I'm looking for two UHF hand helds that can operate at 460 MGHZ that are easily programable relatively bombproof good manual squelch and auto squelch, with at least 4 watt out put pwr, preferably adjustable out put power and id like to get both for less than two hundred bucks.

Am i asking two much ?
Any suggestions ?

sorry I've done bunch of searches haven came up with any good answers yet ! and blister pack radios are not doing it for me or i just haven't fond the right ones!

Any ham HT can be "opened up" to operate on that band but it's technically illegal to operate ham gear on gmrs frequencies.
The manual squelch is a thing of the past, pretty much.
Look for an old Yaesu VX5. Those are easily converted.
