Portable Thermometer - 09/10/09 03:46 PM

Looking for a portable thermometer to carry along when camping so I can get a close to realistic idea of the temperature encountered/endured. Seems I have seen in the past small keychain type thermometers, but now that I'm looking, I can't seem to locate.

Anyone have sources for these or suggestions on what they use to determine temperatures?

I’ve used this http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___87617 that I bought at Walmart. Also at Walmart they have 2 types of mercury thermometers. I picked up a 7” one so I could see the graduations better. It cost $1 and weighs 0.6oz. It reminds me of this product: http://www.gemplers.com/product/145930/Mercury-free-8-1-2quot-Plastic-Case-Traditional-Thermometer

I like thermometers. If I’m freezing at 50F in my 30F bag, this tells me it’s not the temperature hurting me but something physiological.

If I’m in the mood, I’ll bring my big do-it-all watch that graphs the temperature for the last 24 hours.

That multi-function one may do the job. Will have to run by Wally-world and see if they have them locally.

The temperature ratings are exactly what I was looking to get this for. I also prefer to know the actual temperature than a subjective "It's hot" or "It's cold".

I also like to carry a thermometer for all of the reasons listed in the other e-mails.

I've used this one for several years: http://www.rei.com/product/745064

I typically hang it outside and it records both the low and the high. It weighs 2 ounces though. I'd prefer a lighter one.

I recently bought an inside/outside high/low thermometer. Sorry, no link. Got it on the internet somewhere. It weighs several ounces but gives me both the high and low of inside the tent and outside the tent. The outside temps are measured by a wire with a sensor on the end.
