Let's be careful out there--leg-smash edition - 07/17/14 02:30 PM
A very gutsy fellow survived a gruesome injury while descending Mount Goddard on a solo trip. A combination of being in excellent shape, not panicking and good old-fashioned luck enabled rescue personnel to find him. Also worth noting the folks at home who alerted authorities in time.

Saw a bit on the news about that. Tough dude to work his way off the mountain rock like he did.

Boy! Nothing like crawling a mile down a talus slope with a badly broken leg. Ugh!
I recommend reading a book called "Angels in the Wilderness", came out a few years back. Written by a woman who had a horrible fall in Tehipite Valley in Kings Canyon while on a long solo backpacking trip, and how she survived and fought her way through rehab. It felt very personal to me, written by someone with similar passions and experiences...well, except that I haven't fallen off any cliffs, thankfully.
