Osprey Daylite

I recently picked up an Osprey Aether Pack and I like it. The only problem is that I would like a bit more space for items such as a camera, and such, I don't like digital cameras - 35 MM!!!!! Has anyone used the Osprey Daylite pack? I have read some reviews and for the most part they seem to be good but there have been a few that have led me to feel uneasy about purchasing this pack.

I am also concerned about the pack covering up the tent pocket on the back of the Aether. This Daylite attaches right over that part and I don't want to sacrifice one pocket for another.

Using the Daylite will reduce the amount of things you can carry in the pouch, but not eliminate it. I use the pouch to carry my Megalite or Hubba Hubba (out of their stuff sacks) and putting the Daylite on does not really impact it much. It really depends on how stuffed you have the rest of the pack to.

One thing to consider is that you will not want to put heavy, dense stuff like camera gear that far away from your body- it will affect your comfort. I would reccomend using the Daylites capacity for clothing or tent and use the toplid for your camera gear.

Have you thought about carrying your camera gear in a front pouch? ThinkTank Photo makes some interesting camera/lens pouches that might fit on the front of the Aether harness. Then spare gear might go inside the main pack.

This info may be a little out of date due to the age of my Osprey stuff, but I have a Solo (smaller version of the Daylite) that came on my Osprey Crescent when I bought it back in the day. It's a cool little pack, and really nice if you want to setup a base camp and do day hikes from there. I have used it on my Aether 60 before, but I think in covers the big mesh pocket if I remember right. I should also mention that my Aether is an older version ('04 I think), so I am not sure how it fits on the newer ones. One other thing to consider is weight. The Solo is about 12 oz, and the Daylite is bigger and beefer so I assume it weighs considerably more.

Thanks for the info folks. I would need to put my camera in the Daylite when hiking away from camp. I could put it anywhere up to that point but I don't want to carry my full pack when just walking around. Not that I wouldn't have tried to put it in the daylite prior to setting up camp, I most likely would have. Thanks.
