IT looks to me a bit like styrofoam, which, if you could isolate it from flames or serious heat, would be a pretty good insulator for very little weight.

I think it looks like dense closed cell foam.

I think it's a giant matzo that somebody nibbled at the corners then decided it makes a better stove pad. And who could argue?

Sorry, did not list the material. Real Styrofoam, hot pad fabric, acrylic paint to maybe seal the pad, multi use as it is painted orange, so a signal device in case of ?, Automotive Goop to glue the material on. 13F Sunday AM. Waiting for a good snow dump of course.
