Help choosing between sleeping bags - 04/23/13 07:24 AM

hi all! this is my first post here.

i've been checking out sleeping bags for my upcoming trek in nepal (ebc) and i've narrowed it down to these 2 options:

columbia moonstone 15f (800 fill down)
moonstone

stoic somnus 15f (850 fill down)
http://m.backcountry.com/stoic-somnus-sz-15-sleeping-bag-15-degree-down

they have similar specs and i can get either of them at around the same price (about $250).

my question is: is one significantly better than the other? i'm specifically worried about the columbia bag which has virtually no reviews anywhere.

thanks very much for any help!

I have the stoic somnus. It's a very well made bag. I've used it for a couple of winter trips and it hasn't let me down. However, with these bags, just make sure the ground is as flat as possible because they tend to slide from underneath you causing your feet to get crammed in the foot box or your head can get pushed up against the hood frown. I use this bag with a bivy. The compression sack it comes with is junk. Have fun on your trip!

I don't know much about the Stoic Somnus SZ but I wouldn't worry about the Columbia Moonstone. It is a really good bag. I think either bag will perform great.
