New tarp - 02/04/13 11:48 PM

Goin to be picking up a new tarp (first lightweight tarp) soon. I have done quite a bit of shopping around-I have narrowed it down to 4 choices--I wanna keep the price at 75 or less--going to use it for mostly bushcraft style tasks (shelters and whatnot)
Please list these in the order in which you would purchase them-taking the available (to me) price and your personal experiences--
1. BCUSA 10x10 tarp--around $70 shipped--
2. Etowah Outfitters 10x12 tarp-around $65 shipped-I know they made the first generation of bcusa tarps)
3. Terra Nova Adventure 2 tarp--can get for $30 shipped-
4. Equinox Egret 10x12--$35

I like my Wilderness Logics Tadpole tarp.$70 and it free shipping. I'm on my mobile so I cannot do quick search to see if this tarp is similar dimension of ones you want. The Tadpole weighs 10oz

I'm guessing these are silnylon? I'm looking for a tarp under 5 oz. but price is under $200. frown

I'd want to know the weight and the fabric of each tarp before making any recommendations. Except for "BCUSA" I recognize the brand names as reliable, although the Equinox silnylon items I have (tarp and several stuff sacks) seem a bit fragile (especially the stuff sacks, a couple of which have ripped--the tarp seems fine).

I have to double check, my Tadpole is 2.1oz Silnylon, I think. It perfect for my hammock or setting up for few people sit under during a rainy day since the tents can be cramped.

The BCUSA tarp is 1.9 oz ripstop with a urethane coating. It is a very well made tarp. Of course, there are a lot of similar tarps that are just as good. Here is a similar size/weight/materials but only $50. Campmor
It isn't camo like the BCUSA, so you might want that camo feature for more $$. Part of the reason BCUSA tarps are more is because they are using the proceeds to fund the forum.
Here is the BCUSA tarp OM. BCUSA tarp

As for the rest of them, I would first look at the Campmor tarps and then compare prices. If the other ones are cheaper, then I would wonder why. I would also look at raw material costs. If the raw material would cost more than the finished tarp, I would also wonder why. Just something to think about.

FYI, the Campmor silnylon tarps are from Equinox.

I'd still want to know the total weight of each tarp, especially since I'd have to carry it!
