minor tent repair

Howdy.

So recently my friends dog came up to my tent in the morning while I was still in it. He was just happy to see me and tried greeting me but didn't realize the thing that was in between me and him, the rain fly! lol. so he started scratching and I started yelling at the dog to stop. My buddy ran out and stopped him before he could shred the thing. At first glance there was no damage.

Then I found VERY tiny hole. About the size of a pin. But I still think of it! I haven't been out in inclement weather since then, but all I can think of is this hole, and water leaking through.

Any suggestions on patching? I searched in the search bar but couldn't find previous threads about this topic. So sorry if it does already exist. Maybe I am just being overly cautious and could leave it alone without any problems...? It is on the sidewall and rests approximately 5 inches away from the bug netting. I feel like if it did leak the water would just hit the ground outside...but still

If the hole is only a few mm big , I would use a bit of glue over it. Urethene rubber (like Seam Grip) on PU coated fabric or silicone (like Sil Net /GE 100% silicone) on silnylon.
I did one of mine by putting a strip of adesive tape on the inside first, then spread the glue on the outside , peeled the tape off when almost dry.
Now I have a tiny clear window ...

From what you have written, there does not seem to be any structural damage to the material.

You could try going to Wal-Mart, or similar store, and buying some tent repair tape. It is clear tape and you can cut it to the desired size.

Or just paint a little seam sealer over the hole. THat's worked for me.

Be sure to use the appropriate seam sealer for the fabric of your tent. Seam Grip for polyurethane coated nylon, SilNet for silicone-impregnated nylon. For a pinhole size, the seam sealer should be enough.

Great, thanks for the advise everyone. Right, there was no structural damage, it was just a small pin hole to the rain fly. I really had to look at it to see it. Its probably only 2 or 3mm in length. The rain fly is made of 68d Polyester Ripstop.

In that case as suggested something like McNett Seam Grip or Tarzan Grip glue will do.
