Best Runner/Hiker hybrid

Best Runner/Hiker hybrid - 03/05/10 08:49 AM

I know there are about a million trail running shoes out there but I was hoping to get some input on what will suit my needs. I know that it has to fit well so I will be trying them on of course.

What I am hoping to find is something I can run in (Paved/dirt, no trail really)but still use as a solid day hiker with no more than 5-6lbs in my mountainsmith lumbar. When the weather breaks I like to run when I can on my lunch break just around the small town I work in. But I believe in minimalism and multi use items so I want something I can run 5-10 miles in but then on saturday morning use to hit the trail for 4-8 miles (no real bushwacking, probably rocks, roots and uneveness, you know, just local day hike trails)without any second guessing. I have nice boots for longer stuff but they are heavier and seem a little odd for day hiking.

Of course any help is always appreciated.

Just about anything suitable for your runs ought to work for the hiking you describe. I do a lot of hiking in my old running shoes, especially on trails.

I went to the local running store and got fitted for a pair of shoes. I went with black Asic GT 2150's. They are certainly NOT trail runner shoes but I think with the black color and good support for running they should be able to handle a few day hikes here and there.

sounds like youre trying to switch out of your old pair to a new pair. Use the old pair for hiking and the new for running.

Na, I actually do not own a pair of running shoes currently. I just really want to lighten my day hike gear and I am also going to start running as often as I can. So I figure why not find a good shoe that does both. Hopefully the Asics work out.
