Evernew Titanium DX Set

Check out this interesting new stove set from Evernew. The best info is from the Evernew site itself. I've always liked the Trangia stove, but thought it was too heavy. This stove from this set is similar, but much lighter. Hmm, now that I accidentally crushed my Caldera Cone stove while scrambling around in the rain last weekend, I wonder if this new Evernew titanium stove might work in its place. It's a little expensive though. My Caldera Cone (Trail Designs) stove still works, but its a little flattened and I'm not sure I would trust it any more.

At 90 bucks, that is the understatement of the year. I think I will be sticking with my Caldera Cone, not to mention the new DX is a couple of ounces heavier.

A ridiculous price, considering the stove is available for less than 12 dollars online. I am not sure about itss weight, but it can only be an ounce or two more than the three ounces for the titanium item. Hardly makes any sense. I can spend my mney on lots more useful things.

I can't justify that high price either. I think I'll just buy another Trail Designs stove or something similar. I used to make my own alcohol stoves out of cat food cans. Might be time to buy some cat food, although I don't have a cat anymore.

1) I don't think the weight differential justifies the price - it's not that much lighter than my penny stove.

2) I've not used *this* titanium alky stove but have used others, and my impression is... Titanium is a *stupid* material to build alky stoves out of.. aluminum is lighter for same thickness (yes not as strong, but are you standing on it) and ti really does *not* conduct heat worth a crap - this was my experience with the one I did try. it was nasty to get going because the titanium didn't conduct heat as well ask aluminium

For me the most important thing with an alcohol stove is how it performs in the wind. Where I go backpacking (Northern California) there is always at least a slight breeze and alcohol stoves are very sensitive to wind. That it why I like the Caldera Cone system because it is one of the most wind resistant alcohol stove systems out there. Although it helps if you refrain from accidentally stepping on the stove with your sizes 12s and crushing it like I did last weekend.

Last night I dug out my old Trangia stove and tried it with my Caldera cone on my stove at home. Of course it defeats the purpose of the Caldera Cone to use it with such a heavy stove, but I was surprised how well it worked. I always thought the Trangia was a charming example of Swedish engineering, and if you get caught short, you could always use it for a hockey puck. The thing is indestructible, unlike the "Pepsi Can" stoves. I may be using it until I replace my aluminum stove.

google "Trangia" and it will be one of the first choices. It is a outfit I have not used. REI has it, but not as a bare stove. They sell the stove as a component of the Mini Trangia stove set for somewhat more. The Mini Trangia is a fine set for one or maybe two people.

I dunno guys, if it can really substitute for a Bushbuddy wood burner /and/ throw in the utility of a Trangia burner at a fraction of the weight.... I'll wait for some user feedback first in any case.

I never though I'd pay $120 for an air mattress either.

Yeah, it does really look sexy though. I'm rather fond of the titanium windscreen setup. I just have a hard time justifying the price tag compared to what I currently use (leftover aluminum flashing and some bent coat hangers) or something like a caldera cone setup..

It definately does appeal to the raging inner gearhead in me (ok maybe not so inner) but this one I appear to be able to use logic to resist...

I ain't no durn alky stove user (ESBIT's my poison) but I'd be willing to bet one of my unused alky stoves that the Caldera Cone/alky stove setup is more efficient than the Evernew Ti stove.
