Stove base for cheap - 08/29/08 12:02 PM

I picked up a 4" x 4" square of aluminum step flashing at Lowes' back a year or more ago to use as a stove base. It cost .42 cents! weighs like a feather, and the edges can be easily rolled to reduce sharp edges. It has seen quite a bit of use with alky stoves and keeps the stoves from burning picnic tables, ground spots, etc. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

I use aluminum flashing in rolls. I make a copy of the caldera cone for my pot. I first made a cardboard template and then can modify each cone or windscreen for different pots etc. I have melted/ deformed the aluminum a couple of times using a stove design that put out way to much heat. Lots of fuel, lots of heat, short burn time.
