Double Tab Water Resistant Zippers

Double Tab Water Resistant Zippers - 04/21/08 03:52 PM

I'm making a fly for a tent and would like to zip the opening from both inside and outside of the tent.

Is there such a thing as a Double Tap WR zipper? and where?

Any other suggestions for this type of appliication besides a storm flap?

you can buy the tape and sliders from OWF. The tape is very stiff however, I wouldn't use it on curves.

Are you trying to weight optimize? the only time I've seen these zippers close to working well they were godawful heavy, compared to a lightweight zipper - I.E. a regular zipper or velcro with a storm flap may
work as well and be lighter than the WR one.

I'm looking for a quick way to finish this project. I was hoping to install WR zipper and be done. No trying to sort out how to make a storm flap and whether it would work.

I don't see a #5cdt. I'll have to call them, which certainly is not a problem - they have been quite helpful and friendly in the past.

If you have enough fabric on your opening end you should be able to make the cut double the material on one side, set the zipper back 1 1/2 inches on that side of door and set the zipper right the edge of the other side. Then add one or two velcro patches, seam seal and test. That would appear to be quicker than searching for a water proof zipper if you are in a hurry to finish. And I agree with phat on the operation of those waterproof zippers - they can be really stiff a times.

Works pretty good at helping waterproof zippers to ooperate. Actually I use it (it is like chapstick to apply) on jackets, pants, anything that has a zipper that is a little tough. One tube should last a lifetime.
