I'm new here, HI!!!! I'm over at whiteblaze too. anyway,

Do you think the weight vs. durability vs. cost would actually net you a better value than a compactor bag? If so, how do you figure?

What is the difference between a trash compactor bag and a heavy plastic trash bag? I line my pack with a trash bag. The bags I use for our compactor are a heavy paper type. They may have a waterproof coating or a laminated layer, I'm not sure?

Chaz... They also make very heavy plastic compactor bags... don't offhand know the mil thickness, but it is thicker than even the heaviest duty trash bag.

MNS

Edit: Quick search shows that they run from 2.5-3 mil thickness. OTOH, regular garbage bags run from 0.7 to 2.0 mil thickness.

I have a stash of 8 new compactor bags in 3mil and they are my favorite pack liner . White, so they reflect tons of light down into the pack to aid in finding what you're looking for . Tough enough to be a 'washing machine' on laundry day can be turned into an improptu pillow if need be. cut open with a pair of scissors for a small tarp in a pinch. VB bag for your lower legs in down bag if needed. weigh nearly a bit more than a silly nylon bag, yet much tougher IME. Can be used as a bear bag in a pinch to keep your snacks out of reach of fellow campers who 'forgot' theirs (no yogi'in in my camp )....hard to find these days because of the PC Squad, now they make the wax coated paper ones

I use water proof stuff but all of mine are individual sacks that contain only certain things. In other words, I have my clothes inside a water proof bag and my cookware is in one, my food is in one, my tent is in one and so on....All of them are specific colors so I know what I am pulling out of the pack when I go to get some thing..It really does help me stay organized which normally I am not all that good at...Hope that helps...Happy Trekking...sabre11004...

The first step that you take will be one of those that get you there !!!!!!
