Hey Earthling... I modified your IMUSA mug.

Hey Earthling... I modified your IMUSA mug. - 02/03/08 09:15 AM

I just thought you'd like to know I added a wire bail to the IMUSA mug I got from your doodad box. The holes are very tiny, and I put them in line with the handle so they won't get in the way when pouring. It's easily removable, and it fits inside the mug if necessary. I think this little guy beats the grease pot hands down (it's much more durable), but I need to find a decent lid for it now. Total weight w/bail: 3.6oz (103g)

Here's a picture (actual size):

I've been musing on the idea of a heavier duty lid than tin foil for this and I wonder if perhaps an appropriatly sized lid from a can would do...of course you would need to use a side cut can opener like a Pampered Chef can opener.
Oddly enough, back when I usta do Civil War reenacting, everyone carried a 4"x4" tin cup exactly like the Imusa alum. version and I made the exact same mod with a bail handle. Best mod I ever made to my stuff! Good job.

I wonder if you might be able to use some of the aluminum from a disposable turkey pan? It would be sturdier than just aluminum foil, but less so than a can opener. Similar with weight, I imagine. The best thing might be that you could have multiple tries, and make it bigger than the opening then notch it so that it would "close" tighter if you wanted such a thing.
Just a thought! (and it's a bit late... so this might not make sense in the morning. )

Not sure if your talking about out the same grease pot but IMUSA sabor sales a grease pot that holds .9liters with lid for 4bux. Its the same width as the sabor cup which i think is the one you go 4inch but taller and still has the side handle and lil pour spout. I know there is a larger mug thats about 5inch in diameter... im not talking about that one. I used the greasepot 2 weeks ago on an overnighter and it worked great. My stove potstand and lighter all fit in it while stored away.

It looks a lot like the grease pot they have listed here but the pour spout is just bent at the rim.

It's YOURS now Eric Good job on the mod; I am going to try and buy up a bunch of these in different sizes and toss them into EDD Boxes as I get 'em for the folks who can't find them. It's a nice score when you want one and can't seem to buy one locally. That's what the boxes are all about

What wire did you use? Looks to be 1/8th" size drilled hole/wire? Did you try to hang it from a dangley/dingley stick yet over a fire?

For a lid find a plastic lid, like coffee can that fits; then model your metal lid from it I'm thinking .99cent pie pan here, or even .99cent pizza pan in aluminum. I'd just cut out a bigger circle from the pizza pan and then scribe the top of the cup on it, then bend the edge. With the Imusa having a ridged edge on the outside, it gives you a lip of sorts to have the lid stay on tight.

Then use a piece of stiff line for the pot lid handle I saw that here or somewhere and just mention it...I'm no genius

If Imusa heeds my emails to them about making their line in ANODIZED Aluminum, and markets them to campers, then we may see some real goodies for all us gear weenies

No, I was comparing it to the old Wally World black grease pot, not the IMUSA one. The IMUSA grease pot does seem like it would be good option.
