I got my trekking poles from a thrift store, $5. They are really ski poles. I went through the selection and picked out the size that was just right for me.

You could use an old golf club by taking off the head. There are lots of options.

Yea hit a garage sale. some driver shafts are that long. Club shafts are stong two. There was a person monthes ago that posted here about treckingpoles made from club shafts. They are very light and strong. Fishing poles would flex way to much. However, I was able to bye Kswiss trecking poles at Farm and Fleet for under ten bucks a piece. So far they have been excellent. Fleeter may have them on the web site? I did a little searching. This is what I use. so far excellent and great reveiws from others

I would look a little closer at the the treking poles lengths, mine are the REI traverse shocklights and they extend to 55 inches total length they are made by komperdell so i would think they have others styles in simular legnths. Golf club shafts are only around 45" or 46" from the maker. Althought they do make extensions for the grip end of the shaft. If you still want to look at using club shafts try Golfsmith outlet page

I know someone who made their own poles, but they cost more than 10 bucks. More like 40 but they are very light:

9 or 10 ounces and next to nothing in price.
