This is a neat site for tracking training miles. It tracks your mileage along the Transamerica Bicycle Trail.

For a person dreaming of a long trail in the distant future, it can at least be virtually walked. Doing planning as its walked can really help in the future if the chance comes along to really hike the trail. Right now, I'm "hiking" the American Discovery Trail from St. Louis to Pueblo, CO. About 800 miles. I may really do about 180 miles of it in early May before the mountains get clear of snow. Here is a Google Map of my progress. (I didn't get this idea until after doing the first 30 miles or so.) I've "hiked" 120 miles of it in the last two weeks.

Virtual hiking has motivated me to pretty much give up my car including trips to the grocery store. I just load up the pack.
