Condolences. A beautiful dog, and obviously missed!

What a beautiful pup. What a gorgeous face. I am so sorry for your loss.

One of my favorite quotes: “I have sometimes thought of the final cause of dogs having such short lives and I am quite satisfied it is in compassion to the human race; for if we suffer so much in losing a dog after an acquaintance of ten or twelve years, what would it be if they were to live double that time? The misery of keeping a dog is his dying so soon. But, to be sure, if he lived for fifty years and then died, what would become of me?” — Sir Walter Scott

Yes it's a blessing and a curse both. Thanks for your condolences.

I have sought out and found another companion. I normally wait before getting another dog but it's far to quiet around here without my buddy. He cannot be here anymore so I need another dog.

He's 4 years old and I have to travel halfway across the country for him. It'll take me a few weeks to get time off work to do that but it gives the owners time to prepare "Shaggy" for the trip. Not quite a rescue but sort of. He has stayed with the breeder because his floppy ears make him undesirable to those seeking profit. I just want a friend and he'll turn out a fine companion. I've spoken with the breeder and they were concerned about my home, intentions and abilities with an older Shepherd which made me confident these people care about their dogs after they leave.

A photo.

What a beautiful dog! You're both pretty lucky to find each other. Shepherds are such smart dogs too.

It took me a bit over five years to finally feel ready for another dog after my last one died. I adopted a year-old Siberian mix in early January, and she's already the light of my life. It's really amazing the joy our furry friends bring to us, and yet they really ask for so little from us. There simply is no better companion in my mind.

I usually wait as well but his sudden unexcepted departure has left me an emotional basket case. I just feel the intense need for a companion due to other rotten things in my life lately. And I fell in love with that photo as soon as I saw it. Not to mention a good dog is never a mistake.

Meet Shaggy. He's going to be a bit of work but a real sweet boy. Appears to be settling in well. laugh

That's a good looking boy. What's the thing on his head and the black ring around his chest?

The black ring is a harness. I don't like using collars for control with big strong dogs.

The thing around his head is a bandage. When he was let out of the kennel another dog attacked him. The breeder said Shaggy rarely stood up but did this time. Bad idea for him. His right ear was injured seriously. He'll be OK but carry evidence of it for life. He's currently wearing a Cone of Shame in lieu of bandages.

He was still dopey from the sedative here. It shows. laugh
