I'm looking for forums devoted to hammocking. Anyone know of any? This one ( http://www.hammockforums.net/) is dead?

That's strange, it was working the other day. Do you know that its dead and gone? I'm hoping its just experiencing some tech glitch...

Looks like some sort DNS server problem since whiteblaze.net is also boned, likely they simply have lost connectivity, and it looks like they host both their primary and secondary dns servers, so no redundancy. I suspect they'll be back once someone unbreaks them.

SGT Rock's site at http://hikinghq.net/ has a hammock forum as well.

I lurk from time to time on both. but I prefer the crowd here, and besides we still do have
a dediated group of card carrying hammock mafia members here too..<wave>

It was working last night around 11pm Central time.

Sgt Rock is out on the AT so that leaves ATTroll to man the servers.
I'm sure it will be up and running soon. The WB crowd will be freaking out if they can't get their daily fix. About a month ago they got hit really bad with spam and other malicious things.

I too am a card carrying member of the hanging crowd. If you need any particular info, send us a PM or post a thread and we'll see if we can help.

I'm scouting for a NWT HH at a great price. They seldom show anywhere else for sale.

Henessey's don't often go once people have them - and when they do they don't often
go for a lot less than you can buy a new one for - given that a new ultralite is about 185 bucks at MEC or REI, and the standard model is 140 or so.

If you can afford that - I'd just order me up a new one. If you can't, You can save a fair bit by making one. , Risk's Site and several others have instructions. You also might consider posting to the Buy and Sell gear section here that you are interested in one - someone might be shriking their closet and sell you one.

If you do try to make one, don't overcomplicate it - a hammock is a pretty easy thing to
make. (I use a homemade speer type)

Hennessy did advertise on hammockforums.net two weeks ago or so that they were selling some display models. The prices were decent, like $50 off new. I bought one in fact. Not sure if there are any left.

I'll second what was said about the homemade hammocks though. I like this hennessy (I've used it in the backyard twice) but I find that my homemade one is more comfortable. It cost $3.50 for fabric and $9 for webbing at Walmart and took only 5 minutes to make (it's Risk's testhammock, the simplest possible). My next one will be homemade also, probably a zhammock.

I bought the hennessy for the summer when bugs are an issue. As I said it's fine but I'm thinking I would have enjoyed a homemade bug net added to my homemade hammock better.

I'm not unhappy with my hennessy. I needed several hammocks anyway so I can take my kids with me. That's half the reason for backpacking anyway, at least for me.

I also use a homemade speer type hammock. I've added a bug net, a couple of mesh pockets inside for stuff and copied the fly from the Clark site. It's all I need for 3 season camping that I get a chance to do. I set up the fly as a tarp tent the other day and it worked great.

I use a Clark Camo Tropical and love it. If you have any specific questions about hammocking, just ask. I'll be glad to offer my advice and opinion.
