Just thought I'd alert everyone, Patagonia's winter sale is this week.

If you're looking for a pair of insulated pants and you wear XL or XXL, the Micropuff pants are $60 (list $160) for a kind of olive green color. Unfortunately, I wear medium.

Thanks for this heads up! I went over and started looking at items (both on sale and not) and I couldn't believe how expensive everything is!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> I've never visited that site before, but I can't help feeling like they are too expensive even with the sale. Does anyone have any thoughts on the quality of their items and whether or not you could justify spending those prices?

Patagonia stuff is expensive. (There's a reason people call it Patagucci.) It's also very well made. I can usually justify the price when it's on sale for 40-50% off.

I was at the local outfitter in Boone this weekend, and all their winter clothing was 50% off. I picked up a Patagonia down pullover with a hood. Didn't really *need* it, but it's a very nice piece of clothing.

bpw, patagonia is pretty much top of the line. they make great stuff, and back it up with solid guarantees. the other reason Patagonia is so expensive is because they put A LOT of effort into ethics (no sweatshops) and ecological progress - recycled clothing fibers, non-poisonous fabric treatments, non-polluting manufacturing, factories and offices that generate their own electricity, etc. plus they support (with money and manpower) lots of excellent causes around the world. when i buy Patagonia, which i occasionally do on sale, i don't feel as guilty about what went into making the product.

I pretty much only buy their stuff on sale. Their retail prices are a bit over the top, but I find that I like their stuff quite a bit better than the cheap stuff. I'm not strapped for cash and I could afford their prices, but I know they have these semi-annual sales so I just wait. Plus there's always a ton of their clothing on eBay, you just have to wade through it.

Buyer Beware! There's a ton of FAKE Patagonia clothing on Ebay too! This is where Ebay really sucks. So far, I've bought two counterfeit pieces of gear (out of about 20 gear purchases - one company is still doing business on Ebay), TWO counterfeit Bluetooth headsets (out of 3, both are no longer valid Ebay accounts), pirated software for my phone (that company is still doing business on Ebay), and one piece of stolen camera equipment (found that out when I sent it in for repairs - listing said, "broken - you fix and save!" Name associated with account was fake, PayPal account was validated using some senior citizen's stolen banking info).

Be careful out there....

If you think Patagonia clothing is expensive, I'd ask if you've taken a look at the list prices for Marmot or Arc'Teryx stuff.

Anyway, Patagonia has by far the best warranty in the business, and you can find some exceptional deals at the outlet stores during the holiday sales. For instance in the past: Dimension jackets for $70, down parkas (the baffled ones) for $90, simple guide pants for $35, fleece hats for $6, and on and on.

It's relatively easy to spot the vendors of fake stuff, it's typically from those that sell a lot of stuff. I look for the folks that sell maybe 10 or 20 items per year, people that aren't making a ton of money off it. But you're right, it's definitely buyer beware, proceed with extreme caution. Hijacked accounts are another thing to be wary of, I report them as soon as I see them (or any other policy violations).

Another thing to watch for with Patagonia stuff is the tag. If the tag is cut halfway through, it was sold as at an outlet store. I see a lot of sellers represent that stuff as NWT (new with tags), when it's probably a factory second.

I've been fairly lucky so far, I've only gotten burned once and it was a $50 item.

Just bought an iMac computer on eBay, seller seems genuine. Same deal, doesn't sell much and what she does sell is a wide variety. We'll see...

No denying their stuff is pricey, but consider how long you will use it. I still have and use the first synthetic jacket I bought in 1982, another from 1985, and a third dating from 1987 or so (I bought that one on sale - $15). They are definitely serious about their environmentalism and it does affect the price, but I am willing O K with that.

Their gear works too. I have been very comfortable in some fairly serious situations, swaddled in Patagucci. I am a fan of their stuff, based solely on how their gear has worked for me over many years, starting with pitons and chocks. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I haven't bought anything from Patagonia in a long time, but what I do have has lasted for years. HIgh quality, high prices, but over the years, the initial cost was well worth it.

I agree with the other posters here who said that Patagonia gear is worth the money. From a clothing standpoint I am like a Patagonia billboard, but that is only because their clothing is of such high quality. I personally only buy Patagonia stuff when it goes on sale (i.e. the yearly Winter sale), so I feel like I am getting a really good deal.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their thoughts on Patagonia's merch. I'm not entirely sold on the idea of spending that much money, but you've all at least made me decide to ponder the possibility of trying their stuff out.

Patagonia is one of the most expensive companies out there. There stuff is very much overpriced. I have some items that I've bought at closeout prices and I'm satisfied with them, but it isn't any better than comparable stuff from other manufacturers at lower prices. You pay a lot for the name.

I did good - I waited one day and now they have sold out of my size in everything I was thinking about - whew, that was a close one. I almost spent another wad.

I'd be interested to hear more about fake or counterfeit Patagonia items. I've seen plenty of TNF imitations (both on the street and on eBay), but I've never seen a Patagonia ripoff.

I have seen eBay listings removed for violating the rules that had descriptions taken straight from Patagonia's web site--perhaps they were taken down for violation of copyright, and maybe Patagonia has someone watching for such things.

Does anyone know how their sizes run, particularly in the micro-puff pants? Thanks!

The sizing on Patagonia pants is true to the waist size given on Patagonia's fit chart (for example, a men's large really does fit a 34-36 inch waist). The legs often run a little longer than normal.

Thanks! I'm in good shape then. Okay, I'M not actually in good shape or I wouldn't get away with XL, but getting the pants will work. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Usually I drive the 180 miles one-way to the Patagonia Dillon outlet in Montana for their holiday sale (40 percent off the already reduced outlet price), but I can't get away from work this weekend, so I called them up--it's best if you have re-dial for this.

I don't need much, but I was able to snag another R3 fleece for about $40, two pair of merino wool long john bottoms (probably $25 each) and one wool undershirt (about $30).

They sold out fast on the Half Mass messenger bags, and they didn't have any Grade VI, Dimension, or Stretch Element jackets. Nor did they have any Guide, Super Guide, or Simple Guide pants in my size (34).

The only socks they have are in sizes small and X-Large, and the only gloves are Digitshells in small and liners in X-large.

They do have plenty of R2 fleece jackets.
