Colorado Fires - 06/11/13 11:29 PM

There are 6 fires on the front range now. Walsenberg, Pueblo, Black Forest, Denver, and Royal Gorge.

I know, I missed one.

The Royal Gorge bridge may have burned.

I saw those on the news. I didn't see anything about the causes, though, other than the drought--which contributes but doesn't start fires. As of 5 pm Pacific when I checked the news, the fire had burned right up to the bridge and took out surrounding tourist facilities. One place I never got to in my youth; too late nos!

Scary!

There are conflicting reports on the Royal Gorge Bridge surviving the fire.

The AP article I saw this morning (as of 9 am Pacific time, 10 am yours) said that the bridge survived. I hope so!

I saw a picture in which the bridge appears undamaged. .

We may have to evacuate soon because of smoke. We have zero fire danger.

This would be an excuse to take off from work and go backpacking.

It's hard to tell for sure, but this appears to all be smoke. We have fires north, west and south of us.

The big smoke plum on the left is from Royal Gorge.

This is coming from New Mexico and possibly from a fire near Walsenberg

This is all smoke from the fire near Colorado Springs. I just spoke to someone who drove from there and none of it is clouds.

We lost one. A local young man lost his life when a snag hit him out fighting a fire. His mother is the County Librarian, his dad works for the neighboring County. He was only 20 I believe.

Horrible news from Colorado Springs today--thoughts and prayers for you folks!

Extra special thoughts and prayers for those risking their lives--and sometimes losing them--on the fire lines!

Edit, 6/14: Now there have been two lives lost in Colorado Springs, also.
