Experienced hiker/camper - 08/09/12 07:24 PM

I use to do a lot of hiking and camping. Now I want to merge them all together and start working more advance treks. I got on here for some help and guide in doing it.

Would like to start small. Planning on next weekend doing something in Virginia for a night. Hike in spend the night and hike out. Any recommendations on intermediate treks in the area?

Sorry for the late reply - been out family camping...

Hiking upward (http://www.hikingupward.com/) is the local resource for Virginia. Blue Ridge Mountain Sports is also a great outfitter to go in to answer the "where to go" question.

If you are trying to shake out, I recommend the Cole Mountain/Mount Pleasant figure 8 hike. About 12 miles with both loops, and the loops cross over in the middle, allowing you to adjust gear. Good water at the midpoint of each loop and (supposedly, though I haven't used it) at the parking point.

Otherwise, the AT is a marvelous place to play on...
