The Gear Shop Uses "Cookies"

About Cookies:

Our suppliers of lightweight outdoor gear (as well as most on-line businesses) serve up "cookies" which record information about your computer, in order to keep track of your order, as you move back and forth between their store and The Lightweight Gear Shop. By doing this, we can create a virtual shopping cart within which you can put all the items that you MIGHT want to buy. You can put items into the cart and take items out of the cart, much the same as any in-store experience.

They also use the "cookie" information to track referrals from the Gear Shop to their respective stores. In other words, when someone buys something thru the Gear Shop, the cookie issued by the suppling retailer records that fact and, subsequently, The Lightweight Backpacker gets paid $.02, or whatever. So please accept cookies - Instructions follow.

Cookie Instructions:

Internet browsers (e.g., Netscape & Internet Explorer) have options by which you can turn the cookie functionality on or off.

For NETSCAPE 3, go to the main menu bar and select Options, next, select Network Preferences, and then select Protocols. Within the Protocols dialog box you will see a "check box" for Cookies. If the box is checked, you are not set up to automatically accept cookies. You will, instead, get a message each time a cookie is served up which will ask you "Do you wish to allow the cookie to be set?". In order to shop in the Lightweight Gear Shop, you will need to either (1) have the cookies option in your browser set to automatically accept cookies or (2) press the "OK" button when you see the "Do you wish to allow the cookie to be set?" message. That way you can freely move around the store shopping while we keep track of your selections (and I get paid).

For NETSCAPE COMMUNICATOR, go to main menu bar, select "Edit", then "Preferences", and, finally, "Advanced". There you must select the appropriate box. If you choose accept all cookies, we're in business. If you choose to be warned first, then you will have to manually accept the cookie, and we'll still be in business.

For MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER, go to main menu bar, select "View", then "Options", and finally, "Advanced". Locate "Warnings" and either uncheck the "Warn Before Accepting Cookies" box or be prepared to manually accept cookies. Thanks!
